Flood safety guidance
Health, electricity & home safety
These are general flood-safety measures from Thai public authorities. Not a current evacuation or emergency instruction.
Health & floodwater
- Avoid walking, playing or unnecessary contact with floodwater where possible.
- After contact with dirty floodwater or mud, wash hands and exposed skin with clean water and soap.
- Use clean drinking water and freshly cooked food; contaminated water can increase gastrointestinal and other infection risks.
- Give extra attention to young children, older people and household members with health or mobility needs.
Electricity & home hazards
- Do not touch or use plugs, switches, cables or electrical appliances that are wet or submerged.
- If floodwater is entering and it is safe to reach the main breaker without contact with water, isolate household electricity before water reaches electrical equipment.
- Do not reuse flood-damaged electrical appliances until they have been checked by a qualified technician.
- Watch for hidden holes, debris, unstable structures and poisonous animals around flooded buildings.
If you need to leave home
- Take essential medicines, identification and important documents, phone, charger or power bank, clean water and necessary household supplies.
- If authorities instruct evacuation, switch off electrical appliances, gas and the main breaker when it is safe to do so.
- Lock doors and windows if this can be done without delaying evacuation or putting anyone at risk.
- Photograph the property and damage when safe; records may help with later assistance or insurance claims.
